Frann Meneses does a monthly illustration post on her blog, and I had to try it out for myself! July was a crazy month, and I have a few things to share with you!
1• I received my first purchase of books off Book Depository in July! I ordered so many. While I was on Waiheke, I had a shop around looking at books I wanted to buy, and comparing them to this website, and they were all at LEAST half price AND free shipping! So of course i splurged a little and spent over $100 on books I’ve wanted for a while (I’ll do a follow up post on the books I bought), I also ordered 2 more later on, and just before the month finished, I order 6 more. You could say I’ve gone a little book crazy…so apart from the 6 on their way, I have 8 already from the site. I must admit though, one came a LITTLE damaged, but I’m happy with the service so I’m not complaining too much. Oh, and did I mention they come with bookmarks???
2• STRANGER THINGS. Okay, so, I was on Netflix once, and there was a trailer for a new upcoming show called ‘Stranger Things’. I added it to my list, and when the show came out last month, IT WAS INSANE! New favourite show! I loved it so so much. Basically the story line goes; children go missing, super power kid saves the day, government trying to hide a huge secret in a small town. Set in the 1980’s, Stranger Things is a real good watch. It’s basically like a good movie spread out through episodes. High quality filming. And the end makes me wonder about the next season. So so exciting!
3• You already probably know what I’m going to say about this Pokéball. Yes, I’m addicted to this whole new Pokémon craze. And I’m all for something that’s finally getting people outside, spending all day at the park, making new friends outside of Facebook so easily, and, I have to mention it, has overcome popularity in porn. Yup! People are leaving their computers for an amazing cartoon that has revolutionised the way people game forever.
I’m team yellow, and proud of it! It’s so fun and exciting meeting other players that are team yellow, because people ‘say’ we’re the under dogs, but in all honesty, there’s only 3 colours and I don’t think that changes who you are. Unless you’re butt hole and you’re going to act superior anyway, I don’t think that’s the aim of the game. Just chill, catch Pokémon, and battle gyms.
4• Ramen ramen ramen ramen ramen ramen ramen -heart eyes- while I was on Waiheke for Dads birthday, I was given the freedom of buying ingredients for something I’ve wanted to make for a long time! Pork Ramen Bowl by Sorted Food. I spent the WHOLE day trying to make the broth as tasty as I could. I couldn’t find bones at the supermarket, so I just used pork belly and pork steaks. Once I took the top off in the last 2 hours, the flavour really started to develop. I think it was because I put too much water in and it eventually cooked off what wasn’t needed. Needless to say, the meal was a HIT. I will do a recipe post for how I did it sometime in the future. Just let me know if you’re interested!
5• In July I was accepted to received a Black Box from SampleCo LTD, which is basically a box full of samples that companies are releasing. I will be receiving it this week sometime! So I will do a review for you all once I get to try all the tasty samples. This will be my first Black Box, so I’m freaking out just a little! So so excited. Who doesn’t like free stuff, eh?
6• Last but not least, I came back to Hawkes Bay from Waiheke Island at the start of July from a holiday, and went back for my Dads birthday at the end of July! I arrived back on August the 2nd, and I have to say, it was the best time I could have imagined possible. My uncle from Australia surprised my Dad by visiting for his birthday, and he really had NO idea that he was coming, so it was all a huge surprise. We all had a birthday dinner at Casita Miro and I drank the most expensive wine I’ve probably ever tasted, and the way we had dinner was basically tapas galore. After we finished one plate amongst us all, a new one would come out. It was so nice the way we all nibbled and drank and chatted. I hope we can do it again sometime.
Well, I hope you all enjoyed my first ‘Monthly Favourites’.
I really enjoyed doing this, and think I’ll have to try again next month!
